The advertising for 'Just For You' invited people purchasing tickets to submit a request for a song. The venue, which was the lounge of a house/gallery known as 'HOME', held approximately 40 people and I undertook to attempt 20 requests, giving audience members a 50/50 chance of hearing their favorite song. I teamed up with 2 classical musicians and chose to cover a range of musical styles in order to create an imperfect and unpredictable combination of my untrained vocal approach and their 'proper' musical training knowledge on piano, woodwind, percussion and harmonies.
Just For You, 2000
Musical performance with Sue and Livia Harris for SALON series at Laura Godfrey-Isaac’s HOME
Between 1999 and 2005, Laura Godfrey Isaacs and Mimi Banks presented site-specific art exhibitions and live performances at Laura’s family home in Camberwell, South London, under the name of HOME Live Art. HOME Live Art became known for its Salon series of intimate performance works that explored the unique domestic context and the dynamic between site, performer and audience. Rosie Millard recounts her Salon experience from Friday November 10th, 2000 in The Tastemakers: UK Art Now.
